May he rest in Peace. I hope this will open some of yall’s eyes and minds to the large and growing Male Suicide rate. Men suicide rates are anywhere 2 to 3 times higher than women. Yall may think BS, well one is that men are more likely to succeed in committing suicide, think about it men’s choice item of suicide is a gun. From personal experience I can tell you when a man makes up his mind to take his life he is definitely going to do it. Men internalize a lot of their emotions so many may feel or notice something is wrong but will not say anything to them because they are not sure. Men also do not typically broadcast their thoughts of suicide whether thru social networks or just by telling those close to them. Men that are older are more likely to do it quicker, since they feel they have nothing left to live for. Self imposed or external pressures or stress from family, work, etc. also health issues are big causes for Male suicide. Believe me I know and have know men anywhere from 16 to 80 that have taken their own lives. So this is where you come in if you notice a man in your life suffering take the time to reach out to them even if they push you away or don’t respond. You never know your words might be the only thing keeping them alive, I know I speak from experience.

Along with this, [Black] men need to stop being afraid of asking/seeking for help for doing so does NOT make you a weaker man. There’s SOOO many [Black] therapists that are out there to help us sort our feelings, thoughts, and pain who offer their services at sliding scale fees.

I just took Don C’s suicide as someone who was suffering from possible Dementia/Alzheimer’s and whatever other health issues that comes with age. I believe he got tired of living a slow death and wanted out. Suicide was his choice and I don’t shame him for it.
